Default TRANSMISSION SHIFT
I have an 700r4 transmission in my 86 vette and when i put my car in first gear and drive it will shift out byitself. is this normal or is there something wrong.

Generaly most automatics will, it's to prevent overspeeding the engine.

I don't know about that. Mine will stay in first until I shift to "2" or D.

Trans-Go makes shift kits to do exactly what you want to do. I bought one to install in my 95. You can hold any gear to any rpm and still drive fully auto in drive.

Mine does not shift out of 1 without permission. Perhaps your linkage is not adjusted correctly and you are really in 2 (it's not pulling all the way down into 1).
