Default I've got the ignition problem blues ...

The other night heading out car was running fine, very strong. Pull up to a light and take off ... it sputters above 2k rpm ... won't go any higher. Next light, it idles and then just goes down and dies after about 10 seconds. No backfires, but extremely rough. Finally got it started again after letting it cool 5 minutes or so. Got to the party and after it cooled while there acted fine on the way home.

I just pulled the codes at Autozone and there are 4:

P0507 - Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected (Not sure why this, it never idled high, it idled really low then died)

P0140 - 02 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2) (Not sure on this, would it cause this kind of roughness?)

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected (No idea - but i did find that i have a bad plug boot on one cylinder on the passenger side)

P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction (I drive around with this code normally - i took off the AIR system when i put headers on)

Any recommendations?? I hope this isn't the damn opti. it has MAYBE 1500 miles on it!

BTW, i cleared the codes and let it idle for a minute. No code has been reset yet. I'm sure that 410 will come back because of the air sytem, but nothing else has been thrown yet. I checked the IAC too, because of P0507, but it is clean.

none of those are opti related...

but they make me wonder if some wiring hasn't been damaged.

I would chase the various harnesses back to the source - chiefly, the O2 sensor and the IAC. Something is amiss. Make sure everything is properly connected and working as intended.

Do you have the FSM? if so, just follow the troubleshooting guides.

yeah, that sounds like a good plan. I did check the IAC today to see if it was dirty. Also tried to just look around for anything out of the ordinary. Didn't get a chance to check on the O2 wiring, but i wonder if by chance the wiring going to that as well as th IAC use the same ground or something ... and that melted on the headers a bit... maybe. It ran fine today for the 20 minutes between the gym though .

Sounds like a short or a bad ground. You need to look at the error tree in your factory service manual. I don't know why your IAC and 02 sensor would go at the same time. Go to your manual and follow the tree.

Just got done looking over the DTC portion of the FSM's and it doesn't appear that they use any of the same wires. I'm going to check the bundles of wires though as maybe they run the same route. Who knows at this point .
