Default Battery Change,

What's the best way to change my battery? Do I have to remove the body panel?

You don't have to remove the body panel. Just take out the bolts in the wheel well and the bolt on the top of the panel. All you have to do is tilt it far enough toward you to get the battery out. It won't break but be careful anyway.

If you do have to remove the body panel there is a screw you can barely see at the bottom of the panel. 7mm head I believe but I could be wrong on the size. An open end wrench will slide in there.
Hope that helps.

I did not remove the bottom bolt either. Just removed the wheel well bolts with torx wrench and one at the top rear then bend the panel down far enough to remove the battery.

You don't have to remove the panel, but it's easier if you do. Don't remove the bottom bolt, just loosen it and slide the panel out.

Save yourself the trouble. Loosen the bottom bolt and remove the panel. The only panel that bends are the 91-up anything from a 84-90 if you try and bend that it will break. However on the 91 up even though it is made out of urethane, it is not very pliable and it could break. For the little extra trouble it takes to remove the whole panel it is nothing compared to if it breaks. :yesnod:

While you're in there, I'd take the extra time to remove the battery clamp and two upper battery tray bolts, lubricate them with a little grease and screw them back in.

This will go a long way toward heading off any future rust and corrosion issues since those bolts screw directly into the frame rail. I pity the fool who's had one of those bolts break off into the frame!

There are three on my 1992 (including the battery clamp bolt.) Just a little good looking out! :chevy
