Thanks to all who suggested cures. Had a guy come out and take a look. He tried to start it and got the same results I did, nothing. Connected his Snapon scanner ran the tests and said there is nothing wrong. He connected a spark tester to number one plug at the destributor and got spark! Pulled the distributor and moved it maybe 15 degrees, no start. Moved it back maybe 10 degrees and it started with absolutely no hesitation. Frankly I am at a loss to understand what happened. He did nothing I had not done. I'll mark this one down in my WTF book and hope I don't see it again.
So he moved it a total of 5 degrees? Are you by chance running the factory balancer? Reason I ask is that maybe the outer ring has slipped and zero isn't where you think it is.
CFI-EFI Correct. The master touch. He used a spark tester which I didn't have. Now I have two.
jfb I sure hope not.
Morley Not stock.
Wife and I were married 38 years ago today. In Germany. Drove my 26 Impala 327 to Paris. Coming home to Giessen welded the engine together, it wasn't up to the 100mph autobahns. That was my first SBC rebuild. Seems like yesterday.
yep, that was my suspicion, you spark too far off the compression cycle and nothing happens, not really a candidate for the WTF journal....Glad to hear it is rumbling again...
