Windsheild foam?

Windsheild foam?
On the interior were the dash meets the front windsheild there is a black foam filler that covers that area. Has anyone replaced this before? Did you have to remove the windsheild to do it? Is there something else better to use?

The windshield does not have to be taken out, just the top of the dashboard. It can be purchased in a cloth or foam store. From what I can tel is that it prevents the dashboard from rubbing or rattling. I don't know of anything better to use.
