Default laptop for tunning?

Does anyone know if a Celeron M processor, 1.4ghz. will work for tunning with tunercat and datamaster? It says on Tunercats web site that minimum requirements are a pentium 266. I don't know if a celeron will work. Thanks, Ray

Yes, thank you. I had one before and I couldn't get it to work. I was even useing the Belkin USB adapter that they recomended. Anyway, I was going to get a Dell 600m that has a serial port and try this tunning stuff again.

Hi Guy's! Just got my laptop and installed datamaster on it. Now, where do I start? Should I record the car at idle first?
Thanks, Ray

Yep, start scanning at idle (closed loop), then if everything looks ok, take it out for a drive and log the data.

A good starting point with laptop is the pcmcia architecture which is a better connection between processor and peripherals.

Thanks for the reply Morley. Appreciate it! I'll do that tomorrow. It's still a bit cold in PA but that shouldn't matter.
I have no idea what a pcmci architectural is. Maybe a type of a laptop processor, but I already bought the Celeron.

PCMCIA is an interface found on laptops. It is also called a "card slot" and is usually on the side of the laptop (2 slots), Items that are commonly found for PCMCIA are modems, ethernet cards, MARGI DVD decoders.

That's right and what I'm getting at is the need of a port interface if OBD cable requires serial say, you use the pcmcia card to serial or parallel and you have an easy connection, usb is ok if you have the high speed 2.0 and have more than one port. I use a old sony picture book with a pcmcia ....it's small and does a great single purpose job.

OK, I think I got it now. You use the card slot for serial connection. Correct? Ahh, man, I didn't know they had them or I could of used an old laptop I had. Better not tell my wife about that. LOL. Oh well, my new laptop has the serial conector in the back and it's alot faster.

Default How to scan a C4 vette

Hello all,

I am having a "Service Engine Soon" light poping up sometimes on my prestine C4 vette.

I wonder what is the best way to scan for it. Can I use a computer with a cable and software?

Or shall I by a reader such as the Equus/Innova 3123 GM Code Reader (1982 - 1995)

Thanks,

C.F.

Thanks, Ray

Scheidecker-2 things, post the year of your vette, and fill out your profile! If it's an OBD1-earlier C4 it may be as simple to read your codes using a paper clip. But you need to post the year so we can help.
