My old Engine is out, and the new one is coming along nicely. I removed the BellHousing and clutch with the engine. I can't get the bellhousing off. It looks like the fork is holding it on. How does it come off? Can I remove the clutch fork ball and stud from the rear???
yes you can remove the ball stud from the rear.. unfortunately, i cannot remember if it is considered right hand or left hand thread when looking at it from the allen socket side of it! i think it would be right hand.. if you can wait until this time tomorrow night, i can answer that for sure as mine is out of the car and i'm going back over to the shop tuesday.
also, you don't have to remove the ball stud.. it will slide off, but it's not easy.. pop it sideways to the left as far as it will go and rotate the throw out bearing so that the flat sides allow the fork prongs to slide off of it.. beware, i bent a fork the first time i did it! it's tougher to do when the clutch is severely worn down.. new forks are about $100 btw..
also beware that my information relates directly to the LT1 engine with ZF6 tranny.. i'd have to assume similar procedure/setup, but that's all i can do.. assume..
Had to loosen the fork/ball stud with a 6 or 8mm allen wrench first. Then use a 17mm allen wrench to loosen the ball stud behind that. Had to do this on my 1996 6 spd due to the clutch being worn down too far. Manuals say the same needs to be done. Tried in vein to loosen it until i read the info in the repair manual.
