Default parking break help please

i just had a stereo system installed in my 91 and now the parking break doesnt work. i asked them and the car shop claims that they never messed with it except to engage when the car was on the lift in the shop. when i pull up on it there is no pressure there and when i release it it just slowly falls back to the floor. what could be causing this? did they possibly disconnect something when they disconnected the stock speakers? this is really bugging me...

My parking break doesnt make any racheting sound when I engage it so I know the the racheting system is not catching and keeping the break in place.
Becuae when the handle is up. the brake engages its just a matter of the racheting system being unable to keep it engaged.

Do you have a helms manual, or any other manual that shows the park brake?

i got out my owners manual and checked it out, for some reason it is catching sometimes and not others. i got it to work for now, but i cant see a reason, working or not, that it would have a different "feel" to it after having the speakers replaced. thanks for the help though.

Did you check your mileage in and out of the shop? Bet they took it for extended test drive (at low speeds of course) with the parking brake on.
Check your rear brake pads.

That would be my guess. I also find a lot of people don't know how to use the parking brake in our cars either and pull them up higher then they need to be pulled. I had to replace my parking brake when that happen to me, so peice inside just snapped.

Pull the seat cushion & P/B (e-brake) cover & check the insides. May just need some lubrication.

I guess you mean sports seats? Press down on the front of the cushion, there is a wire bracket that holds the front of the cushion in place. Can be a pain sometimes to get loose.

awesome, thanks. i checked the odometer before i took it in, there was no mileage on it, so apparently they didnt take it for a test drive. there was an NSX there that they were having fun with i guess. i dont know what got messed up in mine, its still working, it just feels different if that makes any sense.

thanks for the help.
