Re: Engine Degreasing, safe or expensive???? (1Sully)
I would not. Even years ago engines would not run if washed if that's what you mean.
I suggest that you vacuum it off with a soft brush and then wipe it off with some product like lemon pledge on a soft paper towel. Just do a little at a time and soon the whole compartment will look good. It really works well on plastic and rubber too.
Re: Engine Degreasing, safe or expensive???? (1Sully)
You could if your careful. If your thinking about spraying degreaser all over your engine and then hosing it off I would say NO. If there are only areas that you want to hit I would say do it carefully...without a hose. What I have done around valve covers and small areas is spray degreaser on the area and then use a spray bottle with water to wash it off. It takes forever to do but is safer. The point is you dont want water in the sensors and electrical connections of these engine bays. Finding the oil leaks and fix them is the ultimate thing to do.

Yeah.. and look at that 1 farad capacitor... I had a nice system in my blazer like that with only 2 12" speakers, a .5 farad capacitor and only 1000 watts, but that's a Andrew's dads vette, and Andrew told me that it has 1800 watts going through it :yesnod: . I wonder how often he goes through alternators!
Re: Engine Degreasing, safe or expensive???? (1Sully)
I've had my engine power washed several times and so far no ill affects. I wouldn't be too concerned as long as you don't try and hose down the front of the motor.

Other than the Opti-Spark, the shop manual cautions against getting degreasers on the fiberglass springs. However, I've never heard of anyone having a problem with the spring after getting a degreaser on it.
