Default New A/c Vacuum Actuators

Sons gave me 4 new actuators for my 1984 because they are no longer making them and mine leak. Appreciate the gift but can't figure out how to get out the three that are located under the dashboard and behind the instrument cluster.

Anyone do this and can give me some advise? Thanks.

Maybe this is oversimplified, but you need to remove whatever is in the way. That generally includes the driver's side hush panel - the plastic cover under the dash on the driver's side. Before you replace them, make sure the source is good. Remove the vacuum hoses and attach a pump to the line. Each line should hold about 10 in of vacuum. If they don't, you'll need to get at the control panel and to do that, remove the instrument cluster cover, then the center cover. I haven't looked for your year, but sometimes you can replace just the vacuum assembly on the back of the panel. Otherwise, you have to replace the panel. Of course you want to verify that the engine source is good too. It runs through a check valve near the firewall (usually around the distributor). If the check valve is broken, all you get is defrost.

Thanks for your response. All that you suggested has been done previously. I have the speedo cluster and the dashboard out but the space where the three actuators are located is so small. I wondered if it was necessary to remove the entire plastic dash to get to them?

Wouldn't think so, but it's a matter of what works for you.
