Default Distributer End Play

Hi,

I am doing an LT1 conversion and was wondering how to go about setting the distributor end play or establishing the installed height.

Do I bottom out the distributor on the oil pump shaft, set that as my distributor height and then add a 0.030" shim under the distributor collar?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Distributer end play should be set (approx..006-.010) and left alone. Doing it this way will only allow for early gear failure and timing innaccuaracies. If shimming is nessessary adding a gasket at the top to the mating surface could be acceptable. The height should be established at the top of intake to the cam gear. Either machining more at that mating surface, or adding another gasket.

You will have to do a mock set-up to find out what everything looks like. I would be more concerned with the actual gear to gear location and lash (pattern of height and depth) On a stock set-up the pattern is almost centered in height and the depth is not burried in the gear, on the distr. gear.
