Default 94 LT1 Lifter replacement

Anyone done this and if so, how long did it take? The shop manual says 4 hours but that seems optimistic.

I would be surprized if it took 4 hours

I have never done an LTx but have done more than one L98. I couldn't come close to doing it in 4 hours:
Remove Plenum and runners
Drain coolant(at least enough to clear the manifold)
Remove distributor
Remove valve covers
Remove manifold
Remove or completely loosen all rockers
Remove push rods
Remove lifters
Clean it all up real good and put it back together very carefully so there are no leaks
Don't forget to set the valves and the timing
This is an L98 but it gives you an idea.

Lifter replacement in an LT1 is a fairly easy job, can be done in a long afternoon.

95' LT1, and I just did it...

-Remove TB/MAF/Air Filter Housing
-Position alternator to get DS Valve cover off
-Remove valve covers
-Remove rocker arms/pushrods
-Clear intake for removal by removing vacuum/electrical connectors
-Remove intake
-Remove lifter keeper
-Take out old lifters
-Put in new lifters
-Reinstall lifter keeper
-Reinstall intake manifold
-Reinstall pushrods/rockers. Adjust.
-Reinstall everything else...

This took me 6 hours, but there was some learning going on... If I did it again, I think 4 hours would be very doable.

BTW, you do not have to touch the coolant on the LT1.
BTW2, you might want to try rhodes v-max lifters. I'm in love with 'em

The book time is gauged for a mechanic who is assumed to have some experience for a given task. Four hours or less would be about right done in a shop, correctly, on a stock engine. I can R&R my intake in under an hour due to having simplified things and run through the valves in 10 or 15 minutes. So with R&Ring the valve covers and loosening the rockers, I'd guess I could knock it out in probably 2 1/2 hours or less on my car. But then I've also been doing this stuff for fun and profit for 35 years. I'm fast approaching geezer-hood!
