Default Meziere install tip and question

Hi,
I found that a hydraulic press is not needed to press the impeller out of the water pump. I used a sledge and a punch. Had to hold the punch with vise grips and really smack it, but it came out.

Question: How have you guys sealed the weep hole? Will that freeze plug that comes with the pump do it?
Also, which is better, put the pump on before or after mounting the cast wp body back to the block?

Any other wisdom will be appreciated; my pump dies at 37k; opti survived, so I'm only swapping out the pump; also leaving the old driven shaft in place.
thanks
Ken

You have to remove the splined shaft and block off the hole in the timing cover.I use permitex sealer around the freez plug and I hope you got the HD pump or you will have problems.

Can the splined shaft be removed without taking the opti/timing cover off.? From Strick's writeup, it sounded pretty involved. If I have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor up, I'd be doing a cam at the same time.

I was hoping to run it with the shaft in place. Has anyone had trouble with it this way?
thanks
PS I did get a HD

Some people have run it w/ the stock drive still in place but I wouldn't recommend it. The drive is designed to be supported by the pump in the front. Even though it would no longer be under load, it is still not a good set-up to leave it on. If you saw how the drive operates inside, you'd agree I believe.

If you have the kinda of luck I do,snake eyes 10 rolls of the dice out of 10 rolls I would remove it.
The shaft wants to move foward and rub on the back side of the water pump.
Brass and steel does not get along.
I pulled mine and had it H-arched to close the hole.To save time you can buy another cover ,have it sealed up and install it when you do the install.
One time if I remember right, I install a brass freez plug ,I know it was a real odd size.
I just like piece of mind.
