The volume of EGR flow (from the exhaust to the intake) is dependent on the amount of pressure in the exhaust syste. Lack of back pressure results in decreased flow.
Unlike early L98's that use a temp sensor to verify EGR operation, the '91 EGR self-diagnostic test looks for a change in the integrator value.
My '91, when "true dual" pipes and Monza mufflers are installed, consistantly sets a code 32. When the factory system is reinstalled, no code.
Does anyone have a solution for "faking out" the '91 EGR test when a low back pressure exhaust is installed ?
The only fix for this is to have the code 32 disabled in the ECM if you are sure that is the problem after doing all the checks listed in the Factory Service Manual from www.helminc.com.I think it may not be what you think it is if the EGR is a Negative backpressure type.Describe when you get the code.Is it after 10-15 min on the highway? If so it is probably a bad EGR.Have you done a vacuum bleed off test on it?
Code 32 appears only when the low back pressure exhaust is installed. It does not appear when the factory exhaust is installed.
I have swithced back and forth between the duals and factory exhaust several times, and on two different '91's. Same results as above.
I exchanged emails with a recommended programmer about disacbling the EGR test. He responded that the problem is in the heat sensor (early L98 system). When I reminded him about the the specifics of the '91 test, he responded about how things change every year. Not a confidence builder. Guess I need to find another programer.
