The driver's door on my 96 had a worn pin/bushing on the bottom. I just bought four new hinges from gmpartsdirect.com and replaced all of them. It was not too bad....just replace one hinge at a time and support the door end with a thick pad and a small floor jack. The passenger's side went with no problems, but the driver's door slipped off the jack and it took me three times to get the door aligned again. Which is just a matter of "trial and error" getting the fit just right.
The problem with replacing the pins/bushings is that the pins have to be cut below where they have been flatten, in order to drive them out. Can't do this on the car, so the hinge has to come off. Again, not hard to do, just remove the lower body panel to get access to all bolts. I cut the pin on the worn hinge just to see how difficult it was and was going to get one of those kits off of ebay...but never did. I have four extra hinges sitting on a shelf...maybe some day I will replace the pins/bushings and sell them...except that after adding the cost of the kit and something for the hinge itseld and my labor....its more than the price of a new hinge from gmpartsdirect.com...even with their shipping.
Oh... and the upper and lower hinges are the same for both sides....just that they are upside down between sides. And the new hinges are black, not the body color.
