Default Battery tender - good or bad?

My buddy talked me into installing a battery tender on my vert. I typically don't drive the car in the cold weather so it only sees road time in June, July, Aug, Sept and some of Oct. This battery tender is a Black and Decker from Wal Mart. It is about the same size as a laptop power pack and cost about $17. It includes the ring connectors and harness. That way, you can mount the harness to the battery cables and connect/disconnect the battery tender from the permently attached harness (ie, no alligator-style clamps). Anyone else use these and what is your experience?

Its all good...just the peace of mind knowing that the car will start when every you need it to is worth twice the money. I have a simalar one and it works great.

I've had one for years for various vehicles and prolong the life of your battery. Very good idea and $17 well spent!

I am starting my eighth year with an AC-Delco "Professional" battery in my 1990. Any time the car is not in use the battery tender is hooked up and running. My guess is that the long battery life is attributible to the battery tender keeping it fully charged without overcharging.

Ordinary trickle chargers, while usually keeping the charge up, can overcharge. A properly running battery tender won't do that.

You must be new here because I have posted more than 100 times that car batteries deteriorate when sitting doing nothing and that a battery tender will keep the battery charged and experience a normal lifetime.

Good. I've had mine for seven years and never had a problem. Got it at Harbor Freight Tools for under $13 bones, too.
