Default First time at track, why so slow??

Ok, I just got back from the track and my best run of the night yielded me a 14.56. It was freezing outside (34 degrees) and my 60' sucked (2.22) but come on isn't that a little slow? My mph was 96.6, so that's a little better, but what can I do to improve the rest of the time. It's a 90 6 spd all stock with spare and metal waterpump thing removed.

Thats not bad, actually. Your trap speed indicates you are capable of a better time, just practice those launches. Think 60 ft time!
Dont get frustrated, my first runs were 15.2 and 15.1, thought I had a real pig on my hands.
These cars only went mid 14's stock anyway.

the launch is critical-especially with a stick. If you're looking for mods-the best bag for the bucks would be to go with long tube headers first.

Yea I bogged on the launch everytime. I was looking at the heades and am stuck between the hookers and TPIS, any difference othe then $200? What bends would I need to purchase to piece togethor a dual exhaust system with an X-pipe? This seems like the best thing to do instead of the single system.

You didn't spend enough money but really, not bad for a stock vehicle with less than ideal temps. The biggest and cheapest mod I can think of is seat time. As far as the header choice, I say spend the extra doh on the tpis's, I have had a set for about 11 years and they still look new, although I have had them ceramic coated, good luck.

You need tires!

2.22 60' is really slow, and is costing you a TON of final ET. The good sign is your MPH, that is really quite decent for a bone stock car.

There are some other thing you can do also to keep from getting that bog off the line, I will IM you with some other suggestions.

says who?

in my experience, these cars with a 2.05 60 foot which is do-able will turn around a 13.9-14.1 and should trap 98-99 STOCK. My best trap speed when i was stock was 98.5MPH.

Take a look at 65Z01 mods. He is trapping 103.5 as we speak with 2.59 gears. I think thats good.

Depends on a lot of variables, he did good for his fist time out with no mods at all.

True. I was at the track when the 87 and up cars debuted. I have no memory of 100+ mph, 13 sec L-98 cars. My track is an "average" track. Typically 2000 ft air and an actual altitude of 690 ft. They may have been out there, but i did not see them myself. I remember LT1's w/ 2.59 gears running mid 14's on a warm summer day.

The norm ZF6 cars run around low 14's, and the 700R4 around mid 14's. From what I have seen. Not a fast track by any stretch. Pete I will be sending you Sammy's cam shortly. Of course, There is prob the odd guy that says his run high 13's and is bonestock, but I have never seen one do that in person. But I am sure on the perfect track, and perfect weather it can surely happen.

Thanks Rick. Sami is pretty excited and nervous. He is having no luck at all. I feel bad for him. 2 motors and 4 transmissions in a few months is quite a bit to take. Hopefully his luck turns around.
