I saw a post in the FAQ about replacing the outer door weatherstripping. He said that it could be done by keeping the door panel on. Just drop the window and pull the old stripping up and then use a sharp screwdriver and knock the rivet heads off (3). Then relpace with new stripping and use screws on both ends in place of rivets. Has anyone done this? How did it turn out? I replaced the stripping on my 86 but I took the door panels off and used new rivets and it looks great. Just looking for an easier way. Thanks
i could not imagine doing this job correctly with the door panels still on. The 2 rivets are tucked in there pretty good, and the 10 minutes it takes to remove a door panel is well worth the trouble!!

I didn't think it would be as easy as it sounds. I looked and you can get to the rivets with a screwdriver. But I wonder how you would get the screws in there besides at an angle. Think I'll take the long route. Also can anyone tell me how to adjust the windows, mine will move side to side when the window is down a little?

Good decision, I also forgot to mention that those steel teeth on the "clip hooks"(about 5 or 6 of 'em) really grab onto the sheet metal attaching strip on the door. I had to pry some open with a flathed screwdriver to make it easier for removal. Be real careful removing the old rivets. I used a chisal, and very carfully, tap.. tap... tap... to drive the head offf the old rivet. I bought a hand held rivet tool from Home Depot(about $15) to re-install new weather strip w/ rivets, but I guess a screw would work just as well.
