Hey guys, I've got a question for anyone who's familiar with Extrude Honing work. I'm looking to get the hot cam installed at some point in the next month and would like to take the opportunity to have the heads and intake extrude honed. I'm a bit hesitant about going with a full port and polish job or going with aftermarket heads, so I'm guessing that this is a bit more conservative of an approach. Make sense?
What I'm wondering is approx. how much will it cost to have this done and is there a noticeable performance gain. Any info. you have would be appreciated.
I'm a bit hesitant to go with full port because I'm worried about everyday driveability/reliability. The impression that I'm under from previous posts is that the hotcam alone really won't affect either one. I'm also trying to stay within budget for this one, and I'm thinking that all of the mill work won't fit
ExtrudeHone lists their prices on their web site (www.extrudehone.com), under the automotive aftermarket section. It is not cheap, but none of this type of work ever is.
Just noticed the price list, missed it the first time :o ! I had no idea it was that expensive! Looks like about 1500 for the intake and heads. I might be holding off on this one if I can't find a better deal. Thanks for the advice.
I don't think extrude honing is going to do much for an LT4. Besides, extrude honing doesn't do anything for the pushrod blockage, that's the biggest problem with SBC heads. If you don't want to spend the money to port your heads, why not at least port match the LT4 manifold to the LT4 head? I've heard the LT4 intake port is same size as the LT1, there's a 0.1" mismatch.
