As per our tranny guru pete. K himself run a cheap walmart ATF fluid in his bad *** car, and has survived so far on same tranny, his tranny has 70-80 1/4 mile passes...
Ive been running it now for about 3 years. My tranny guy says its worth it. Says it withstands heat better, which is what kills a lot of transmissions. I use the Mobil brand and in reality it probably is no more then $40.00 difference in the total fluid cost to use it. A small price to pay for the added insurance.
I've used it in a van used for towing and have not had any tranny problems. Have not used it in the vette because of the age and figured fluid and filter on that one would be OK. I have to agree the added protection is worth the price.

Has any one had experience with converting to this stuff if the trans has used conventional ATF before changed over?
Put Mobil 1 atf in a friends new ford truck at the 20k mark. 10k miles later it broke both plantery gear sets while cruising at 60 mph. Very odd failure, even for a trans with 300k miles. Had similar failures in manual gearboxes and rear ends.

I did, but it was on 2003 ford van diesel, with 24000 miles. I took it to a change center and they flushed it with the new mobil syn. fluid. I now have 43000 miles on it. To be honest I cant tell any difference with it but I feel better. My vette, I had it rebuilt and went to it at that time.
I had several failures with a turbo 400 behind a BBC using TCI synthetic. The last time i had it built i went with regular ATF and it lasted almost 8,000 VERY hard miles, which was far more than it had been getting.
It had a lot of good parts in it and as far as what caused the failures, besides way to much torque, who knows.
But i will not run it again.
