I have a 1994 with about 50,000 miles on it. This is my first vette and at 26, it won't be my last. My problem is that on a few occasions my car hasnt started. I believe it is the chip on the key, or in the ignition that is causing my problem. My batt is fine and everything comes on when the key is turned, it just doesn't start or crank up.
Any ideas to check this? :jester
When it won't start, try your spare ign key, its pellet contacts aren't worn like your everyday key. If it still won't start, then listen for the start enable relay click when you try to crank, if no click, then you may have worn out contacts in the ign sw that connects to your pellet. At the base of the steering column under the carpet is a 2 pin connector that connects the pellet contacts to the VATS module. Unplug the connector and measure the resistance of the wires coming out of the column (with the key in the ign). This resistance should measure the same as the pellet resistance in your ign key. If the resistance is very high or infinity, then you need a new ign key which has new pellet contacts. I drive my 87 every day and I'm on my 3rd ign key for the pellet reason.
thanks for the ideas. I bought the car used and only have one set of keys still. I will get another set and give it a try.
Does static from the keys being in my pocket do anything to the pellet?
