Default Cigarette ligher removal?

I'm replacing my center console shift plate and I cannot figure out how to remove the cylinder insert that goes through it. I also cannot figure out how to remove the ashtray door without breaking anything since I'm going to be selling it. Any tips ?

The outer sleeve screws off from the back and you pull it out the frone.
Having said that I had my console out last week and tried to take the lighter apart but I could not find a tool to hold the center cylinder from the front to keep it from turning.
Good luck

So you were unable to get it out?? I'll play around with it and see what I come up with.

If I remember right, I used a set of snap ring pliers for the inside of the lighter to hold it, and a pair of chanel locks on the outside sleeve. hope this helps.

I used a screwdriver in the cigarette lighter hole and turned it. Hold the back side with your hand, it should un-loosen.

I stuck a small flat tip screwdriver inside the cigarette lighter hole to retreive something that fell in there. Something shorted against the screwdriver, and my stereo would not power on. The next day everything worked fine without having touched the car. No blown fuses or anything.
