Hello!
I am a newbie to the Vette world. I have been stuck in Camaroland until 2 days ago. I bought my first Vette, an 86. I love the car. Lots of power and handles like a dream.
It has some minor flaws (I hope they are minor). Since I am new to Vette ownership, I have been sponging up the threads. I have been reading up on the digital instrument panel discussions. Here's my problem:
The panel seems well lit, it's bright. But none of the LCDs read anything. They are all blank. All of them. I checked the fuses, etc. The guy I bought it from is a friend. He hasn't driven the car in about 2 years so when I drove it home it was the first real driving she had. He told me the instrument panel was not working. At first I thought I would have to send it in for repair but after reading the posts, it may be something I can do. Any thoughts as to where I should start my search for a working dash. Not having a speedometer is a bit unnerving! Thanks!
Hey Don,
sell it now - don't ever look back. It's an addiction that you will never be able to shake - before long - you start looking for more power - better handling - it never stops. Pleas God - make it stop!
I just drove 8 hours round trip to pick up a new set of tires and wheels - they could have shipped em - but - no! I had to have em now - battled the legendary LA traffic - and lived to tell about it.
Can we assume that the switches on the center console that determine metric or US, oil pressure or temp etc - can we assume they are not set to the off position - cause if so - I have nothing to help you man! sorry - but someone around here will help you!
If you have some experience in electronics, you might have a go at the circuit boards, but if you don't, then let a repair center fix it. Inexperience can destroy these boards. Most likely your problem is the power supply board. There is a piggyback small circuit board on one of the circuit boards that generates about 150 v to operate the liquid crystal displays (yours are blank).
The best info on the cluster is on www.batee.com
That's correct. All of the symbols are lit. I can even switch them on and off with the information function display changer but NOTHING reads on any of the LCDs.

Just curious??
Would not the power supply being bad also knock out the lights? My display is lit, just no information.
The LCD's (liquid crystal displays) are back lit by 4 incandescent lamps which operate from a circuit that varies their operating voltage from about 2 volts to 12 volts. The switching supply that generates the 150 volts operates only the LCD's, and that is why you can read the displays, but see no bars or numerals.
