What do you hope to accomplish with these various upgrades? I have no idea what "a red chip with ASC*8902 #10467897" is. Possibly it is a superseding number for a part that I have listed in the break downs for the 1103680 distributors used from 1986 and up.

RACE ON!!!

What I am doing is reconditioning a 1990 with 75,000. I disassemble everthing whatever is need of repair or replace gets done. I am not up on the C4,and this site has be very helpful for knowledge that people are willing to share. So bottom line is, I have to buy parts, I know OEM is not always the better, if there is better aftermarket I am willing to spend extra for the better part. End results are old/new 1990 and if any upgrades can be performed with out showing signs gets done,, documentations and pictures to verify work or part. Again I restore old to new if not better,my personal collection 1-C2, 2-C3's, Now my driver 1-C4 when finished a.k.a. Leo's Vette's

In this case a std. HEI if all is working correctly, is fine and really doesn't need upgrading. You can look through a FSM and check various areas. The HEI ia actually well balanced as a total set-up. The use of perhaps aftermarket wires would be good. Delco replacement parts can support far beyond what your std. TPI is capable in stock or in modified form.

Unless you have an engine with very high compression and that turns many hundreds of rpms higher than the stock engine, you cannot improve on the stock HEI parts. The best you can do, as far as reconditioning is concerned is to check the shaft for play in the bushings and set the end play. With that done, you have an extremely capable ignition system.
