Hey guys.. roller rockers went in 2 weeks ago. We re-seated them tonight but idle speed has dropped to 600 rpms in drive at a stoplight. This seems way too low. It feels like the car is only barely running. On my fan shroud it says not to attempt to reset the idle speed... do they mean that? One last thing.. when driving the car since rockers went in it feels like something is pushing and pulling the car. Is that normal?:confused:
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Idle speed/ roller rocker problem please help (lilredcorvette)
Also if i am correct they are just roller tip
right Lilred
you'll have to ride in mine and see if it feels similar, also does the idle jump or is it solid at 600?
Re: Idle speed/ roller rocker problem please help (91_Corvette)
Yes.. tips OOPS
the idle is even most of the time at 600... sometimes it goes to 700.
Brian is going to take the boat out Sat. and the BBQ is Sunday <hope to see you here for it> So he says he'll wet sand next weekend if that's ok with you. He just wants to get the boat out again this summer. Call tomorrow.
Nite guys

Don't know for sure what you mean by "pushing and pulling the car". If you mean it is unsteady at constant throttle position, recheck the cable connections to the IAC and TPS.
BTW, 600 rpm is not bad in gear idle, unless the AC was On.
You may have a non-slotted TPS so you can't adjust idle voltage, but I would think you can set up base idle using the IAC. They may mean to not mess with the idle screw unless setting the IAC. That procedure is on my site.
Re: Idle speed/ roller rocker problem please help (scorp508)
tonight we had the car running while seating them <nasty mess>
He loosened them until they made noise...slowly tightened them until they were quiet then went 1/2 turn tighter. He says that's what everyone's told him to do.

Re: Idle speed/ roller rocker problem please help (AquaMetallic94LT1)
I think so, though I guess it's a matter of opinion.
I got out of the habbit of the using the TDC method because it can
lead to problems, especially with larger cams. I believe even with the
cc306 using the TDC method you will not be on the base circle (though
that's just from memory) - and the larger the camshaft the more of
a problem this is. Now if you aren't at *exactly* tdc but say a couple
of degrees before (Say the motor bounced back) - now you have compounded
your problem even worse.
I normally set one cylinder at a time - bump over the motor until I see one
rocker start to move, go to peak lift, and *just* as I see it start to come
back down (so I know I hit peak lift) I set the other rocker on that cylinder -
then mark it with a paint pin. This way I know for sure I am on the base
circle.
