This evening I installed a new weatherstrip on rear window of my 1993. All in all it went pretty well. However with the new weatherstrip the window is difficult to shut, more so with the doors closed. I suspect the seal is much better now (old corners were really blown out). However I don't want to put too much stress on the glass. My Helms manual doesn't provide any specifics on the proper adjustment, it simply explains how to move the latch. When I raise the latch to the point where it requires about the same force to close as before, the rear window sits up above the body probably a 1/2" or more.
Should I set the latch lower so the glass mates better with the body knowing it takes a fair amount of force to latch the window or should I keep the latch up in order to reduce the force? Also will the weatherstip tend to flatten out and thus reduce the force needed to close the wnidow?
As a fairly new C4 owner I really don't have a sense on how much force it should take to close the hatch with a new weatherstrip. I certainly appreciate any advice you may share.
My 95 is the only one I am familiar with and the weatherstripping is original, but not as bad as yours sounded to be (however my doors need it bad)... Anyway - mine does seem to require a lot of force to close... I usually don't get it closed on the first try (with one hand and groceries) - and my fiance has to exert quite a bit of force to get it closed (all of her might I'd say)... - - It swings up and down just fine - it is just difficult right at the latch... - - - - I've never thought about doing anything about it... But if its a common thing with a common fix I wouldn't mind hearing what others have to say...
Thanks for the thoughts. Mine is the same way. Very ease to move up and down, just hard to shut at the latch with the new weatherstrip. I'm going to play with it a little more today.
I'd certainly appreciate anyone else weighing in on this one.
Mine has always been dificult to close. The weatherstrip on my 93 is in pretty good condition. Just remember that you are trapping a bunch of air in the cabin when you shut that back glass.
Same problem here. New weatherstripping all the way around and you have to put some push into closing the back hatch (along with the doors if all others are closed). The GM dealer says that it is because you are trapping more air with the new seals. If I leave a window down or door open - normal pressure to close. Made sense just don't like it.
Thanks for the thoughts. I drove the car today with new weatherstrip and it really makes a difference. Not only do I not get the big puddles in the corners after I wash the car, there is a lot less road noise.

I appreciate the feedback.

Afte I replaced the the rear weatherstripping I also had the same issue, very difficult to close. After time the seal will soften up and will become easier to close.
