versus iron; ready-to-run versus 'mods-required' parts. Differences in
chamber volumes also affect results and expense.
While the iron L31 Vortec heads offer great performance and value,
they need work to permit more lift & spring. The Fastburn may have
had their day come and go - newer offerings deliver performance and
value over the FB. For a street price that is not much more than
modified L31 Vortec's; the E-Tek is ready for well over 500" lift, reduces
front weight by about 40 lbs and appears to perform exceptionally
well. With what I know at this point in time, I would choose the
small E-Teks for strong street performance/good value on a 5.7L.
Also remember that any Vortec-style head requires a different
intake manifold base and header fitment may be an issue because
C4 pipes are typically intended for angle-plug heads.
A google search will bring up several articles reporting results of
testing Vortec-style heads.
CF member 'opel' is in the final stages of switching to Vortecs and
a Super Ram. He could help with better first-hand information about
mating everything together.
