Maybe someone can HELP me figure out why the throttle "sticks” after the car is warm. I need to tap the gas to bring down the revs, like disengaging an automatic chock on a carb'ed.
The stickiness is a real heart pumper; given my 87 Vert has an automatic transmission, especially in late fall as pavement starts to freeze here and road being to get icy.
Linkage and Throttle Body both feel good; I used a lot of top engine clean through the Tune Port Injection to no avail. Any suggestions?
You might want to remove the throtle body and do a good cleaning. If it has alot of biuld up around the butterfly, that will cause it to stick. If the cleaning doesn't solve the problem, then I would turn the idle screw up just a bit. It may be setting to tight of a seal (metal to metal) after years of use.
Thanks, I did a thorough cleaning of the butterfly with top engine cleaner before I put it away last fall. That did not take care of the problem. However, during that cleaning I did not completely remove the throttle body and I did not disconnect the coolant hoses. Is there something I missed by doing this cleaning in that manner?
The butterfly does not stick when I open and close it by turning the throttle.
I'll try your next step, but I don't know where the Idle Screw is located. Little more help is appreciated.
