I took the time yesterday to look at my drivers window. For years now I have put it off. The window seems to be out of adjustment because it moves side to side. The window on the back top has been hitting the vert top and messing up the metal and weatherstripping. So, I removed the door panel and while I was there I replaced the outer door weatherstripping. I removed the metal interpanel and see a plastic piece has broken off where a bolt goes threw the glass. I tried to unscrew the bolt, but it just turns on the other side. Is this something someone else has experienced or should I let GM handle it?
I have a couple of scans, for a 95, I can e-mail that shud help. Tells how to adjust window, etc. You'll probrably have to try & fabricate some kind of a wrench to get at that spinning nut behind the glass.
I took my driverside door panel off and investigated my problem. The front window stop is broke. The plastic window stop is about $12 from GM. I got an estimate of $40 +/- to install the stop at a body shop. I noticed it has a 10mm bolt that goes through it and some other type of tool needed to put on the backside to brake it loose. Is this worth $40 to have someone else install or is this something I can go myself? What type of tool is needed on the back side of the window?
I've replaced them, and I'd pay $40 to have it done.
The best tool I found for holding that bolt was right-angle needle nose. But it's such a cramped area to work in, with sharp edges and fiberglass shards poking you, and then aligning the window afterwards is such a PITA, that $40 seems like a good deal.
I reinforced mine with JB-Weld. Something you might want to consider so you don't have to deal with it again.
