Default I'm a stupid...

If you think I'm a stupid....you are wrong
...I'm much more than stupid... I'm really stupid.
Yesterday I was removing a Roller rocker.
When I was putting the nut on the stud to use the manual spring compressor ...the nut fall down in the engine bay...
I can't find it
I searched everywhere .... nothing
I felt a noise of metal (I tought : " yes it's near the hooker headers or near the starter.." Nothing! OK it wil be in the floor..
(my garage is not so clean :bb ... ) but Nothing!
So after 3 hours of searching I'm considering to buy new nuts for the rockers.
(one day I'll find it just when I will not need anymore... )
My roller rockers are Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 with 3/8 studs not self aligning
part number CCA-1302-16
Whick kind of nuts I need? this part? CCA-4601-16
Im considering also to change to 7/16 studs. Could i buy just the flat or raised 7/16 guideplates and 7/16 studs and the right nuts or the rockers i have itself are made only for 3/8 studs?
Thanks
-Beppe- (the stupid one with the best collection of nuts and bolts in the engine bay..)

you can't upgrade to 7/16 just by buying new studs- you would have to by rockers too. however- i am pretty sure your existing guide plates would be able to be re-used since the bottom threads that screw into the head are the same size if you have 3/8 or 7/16 studs.

something you might be able to do to upgrade and not have as much cost as buying 7/16 rockers is to buy a rocker stud girdle- since you already have to buy new rocker locks. a girdle might not fit though depending on what you have for valve covers.

The last thing I need to do is to buy new RR just to swap in to the 7/16" studs...
They will remain 3/8"
....
Any advice on the replacement bolts?

Call Comp Cams. They should be able to tell you what's available.

I droped one once and it ended up wedged in the header collector.
I almost never got it out after i found it, some how it set up a wierd harmonics at about 3500 rpm and sounded like the motor was coming apart.
Good luck with it, and you are not the first or last that this has happened to.

i agree- i would call comp. summit lists a number for a slot size of .550 and .612- yet your rockers have a .562 slot. so- i can't be of any help there. also- just a bit of advice- once they give you a part number. call right back and ask the same question again- you will most likely get a different tech- so you won't sound stupid. the reason i say that is because on more than one occasion they have given me the incorrect part number- so i ended up with the wrong part. never hurts to double check.

They can get lost in the front crossmember area, have a spark plug or two in there. Keep up the search.

your not alone Charley, I was testing my pickup coil held in by three friggin screws which I set on the plenum, went to move my drop cord and bye-bye, didn't hit the floor (clean garage), swept the entire engine with my mech. mag, went and bougth a new pickup coil-$19. for three screws-didn't even get kissed well, I do have a new PU coil when ever I need it-but-call me stupid whatever, so you're not alone.

Another point to search is in the upper side of the X brace (it's a convertible ..) ....but it's impossible to see over there ...unless i remove it.

I keep losing screws in the dash when I work in the car. They should have designed it with more room, but then again it is a sports car. Have you tried using one of those telescoping magnetic things?

Default Look in the cross brace

Look in the cross brace under the car. I dropped a part once while working on the front left part of the engine. Ordered a new part from GM. Got the car going and drove many miles. About 6 months later, pulled the cross brace. Guess what was in there.

Oh yeah, if any one needs an AIR pump pulley spacer, let me know.
