I have had no isses with the car that would explain would is happening. I have been driving around locally periodically throughout the day today. The last time I tried to start, all I got was silence. Voltage looked okay as did battery connection. The only thing I noticed that the brake warning light came on when I twisted the key. For all I know, this happens everytime.
Any ideas?
The starter is a CSI mini starter that is been in for around 4 years with no probs whatsoever.
Wait 5 minutes and try it again (wait for the VATS moduleto time out)..if it starts, you likely have either a worn out key or lock cylinder. VATS lock cylinder failures are pretty common. Some guys try to clean the key pellet with a pencil eraser, which can work albeit temporarily.
Thanks for the quick reply's. 5 minutes later I tried my second set of keys (used very infrequently, noticeably less wear to the pellet) and it started right up. I shut it down and tried to restart with the old key, which it promptly did. Just another gremlin to worry about.

i recommend getting rid of that old key and buy a new one - for $15 or so dollars (or you can get them cheaper by buying blanks on ebay) it's worth the peace of mind

If it started with the old key, you need a lock cylinder...
Glenn, I agree with you. Its not worth the trouble to maintain. I would either bypass it, or have is disabled on the chip. You still have the non-ignition related part of VATS operable -- which is enough of a deterrent. JMHO
