I have 1995 with 32,000 miles. I drive it maybe 100 miles per month. Anyway, the car has been shifting fine but, out of blue, it started shifting hard from 1st to 2nd so I took it in to get the transmission serviced. Shifted great for the first couple of weekend rides after the service but now it is doing it again....plus it it not shifting into OD on the interstate.
For what it's worth, it shifts harder when I am taking it easy.
Also, the car is totally stock.
Does this sound like a "major" issue with the transmission?
Any comments would be appreciated before I take it to get it checked out.
mpparker,
While no transmission expert my first action would be
to change the tranny fluid. My preference is to flush
out the whole system.
I prefer synthetic ATF and use Amsoil ATF in my '93.
While this sounds like a simple minded response you
may be suprised to find things improve within 100
miles after the change.
Another simple action would be to Auto-Rx the tranny.
AutoRx is a cleaner used in engines and tranny's with
usually great results.
For more info on Auto-Rx go to:

go to the additive section where you will see FAQ
section on Auto Rx.
Thanks for the tip on Auto-Rx. I went to the website and it makes sense to try it.
Also, I got the car out today..went straight to interstate, set it on cruise at 70 and let it ride. It took about 10 miles for the car to shift to OD and it ran pretty smooth after that. I think my problem is that I let the car sit too much and when I do get it out, they are typically short runs. I am going to get it out this afternoon for a long ride and try to drive it more often and see how much more it improves. In addition to this, I may try Auto-Rx.
No transmission expert here either. I would have suggested too, to change the fluid and filter and have it flushed. My 86 vette shifts kind of hard at WOT, but I think it is suppost to. When I take it easy it shift o.k. I will be changing the fluid and filter shortly. And yes, If the transmision is not used and not up to temp (short drives), things like this can happen. IMO These cars are made to drive and letting them sit up will have negative effects, even though mine are garage queens.
Thanks. This is my first Corvette and I have never been so particular about getting a car dirty. I am getting better about that. My wife thinks I am crazy that I clean it more than I drive it! I will get it out more now that it is spring and I sense the negative effects of it sitting so much.
As you can see, I am new to this forum. What a great source for information!

I know what you mean. When I was 17 I got my first vette 91. My dad told me I drove it once a week and washed it twice a week. This forum is great, it is a tool in itself. There are guys on here that have had many year experience with C4's. Good luck with the tranny and if anything else, let us know!
Your transmission may have a shift solenoid problem.
If your car has a 4t60-e transmission it has 4 solenoids.
a tcc- used for the torque converter lock up
a PWM- used to control the perssure in the transmission
and two shift solenoids for you 1-2,2-3 and 3-4 shifts.
You may be able to get a scan tool and see if they do shift properly or you might have to drop the oil pan and check the resistance of each solenoid im not sure what the resistance is but you might get it from gm or a shop that you may deal with.
