Default Pcmforless Quiestions?????????????

Hello

I didnt want to bother Alvin but I am mandatory for my chip to be reprogrammed. I think the upgrades(mine and the unknown from the previous owner have made it run like ****) I know that it will be customized and that it will run cooler, seat of the pants throttle response ect. ect........Id like to know how much gain is that worth into h.p.,torque, and sound. Thanks to all who contribute

IMO a lot is going to depend on what mods have been done. If it is basically stock, then a small amount of power, help smoothness, a little crisper on the throttle response, but in all honestly GM did not leave 50 hp on the table when programming these cars. But my concern would be if the car is not running well now, is it due to programming or other things ie. wires, plugs etc.?

well with 387 crank hp it is not stock. I really believe you need to talk to Alvin. Do you have a way do do data scans, ie datamaster and a laptop? Without knowing the mods ie. cam size etc, I would think he will need at least that at a mimimum but again you need to ask the chief. Good luck.

Maybe I am too late but I would warn you...

1) "I am not sure of what the previous owner did either" !!!!! Mail-order tuning is a shot in the dark at best, you need to be able to tell the tuner 100% of what has been done otherwise there is no point at all. Things like suspension/wheels/tires yadda yadda not important. Things like fuel/air/engine NEED TO BE KNOWN!

2) Like I said mail-order tuning is a shot in the dark at best. I had poor experiences with it. IMO, I wouldn't get a chip burned until you can have it done in person.

Good luck!....You'll need it...

P.S. Oh yeah, when they mess up the burn...they'll point the finger at you/engine. So if I were you I would make sure that puppy is running smooth before I dared a mail-order. With a MAF car the tune shouldn't hurt the car (especially one so close to stock) at all, if it isn't running right, it more than likely is the mechnical aspects not the stock tune...

If you dynoed at 387hp, your car has a LOT more mods than what you are listing you might not know about.

Remember '86's came with 235hp. Your engine might be a 383, different heads , different cam, etc ...

Did you pull the motor from the car? Otherwise how would you have gotten a legitimate hp rating at the crank? Please tell us more details about where and when you got this info. Something doesn't sound right.
