On my '92 I just bought two weeks ago. I Found a highspeed (100mph+) vibration today in the car while testing things out on the highway, which comes on at WOT beyond 90mph, then goes away once slowing down to 60mph. If I accelerate in OD at normal throttle, the vibration doesn't come back.
Raised the car up and looked at all the suspension parts since we swapped a Dana44 with 3.45s instead of the D36 with 2.59's and noticed that when the car is in neutral, and we spin the tires, we hear clicking noise from inside the transmission, and a high pitched squeeling while the driveshaft is spinning constantly..
Can't help you with the tranny, but the driveshaft sounds like the U-joints. PeteK can help you w/tranny, he helped me diagnose my problem; he is a good guy.
My car made a horrific clicking sound one time....we replaced all the u-joints(half shafts and drive shaft) and it was smooth as silk.
Mine always had a vibration whether it was the 36 or the 44. Your '85 was ROCK SOLID though with the 36 or 44 as I recall. Don't worry too much about this, you'd be surprised how many cars vibrate a bit at higher speeds.
the UJoints are all new HD spicers, inspected and checked, al lthe parts used are from my '85 than ran rock solid.
The clicking and squeeking is coming from the the transmission pan. You can even feel it when you put yoru hand on it.
On another note, we took the driven gear out of the '92 that we put in when the dana44 was swapped and it showed some wear on it. Put the stock one in, and took her up to 127 (true speed no friggin clue) and no vibration or nothing.
