Some have updated to 1.6 rockers without changing valve springs. Me, at the very least would install LT4 springs with the rockers.

Not a bad idea at all. With the stock cam, I'd recommend the 26915 Comp Cams springs or check over in the C5 Parts F/S section for some '02-'04 LS6 take-offs.

No, you must have retainers for the beehives because the beehives are much smaller at the top. The good thing is, is that they are much lighter than standard spring retainers because of this. So there's little advantage spending money for the ti ones in anything less than all-out applications. The CC retainers are 787-16. I think you can use your stock 7 degree locks with them or get theirs, they're not much.

im not familiar with all those spring pressures regarding z06 and c5 beehives. but the LT4 springs were desgned stronger for the higher redline. Id get replacement springs for the lt1 or a beehive if available in that pressure. If not id reccomend lt4s but not stronger. any extra spring pressure is just going to eat hp.

I did 1.6rrs on my 93 like 6 years ago with new lt1 springs, new pushrods, crane ignition. plugs/wires and march pulleys.. and it was a HUGE difference my mph went from 106 - 110 probably not only because if the increased hp but because it would pull so cleanly to redline.

I hear ya'. That's why I told him the CC 915s or the LS6 springs. The 918s would definitely be overkill for his application. The smaller retainers also aid in the free-revving you mention. My choice for conventional springs in a stock LT1 w/ 1.6 RRs would still be the LT4 springs. But the beehives work well in these engines and have some distinct advantages in applications for which they're suitable, IMO.

Default 1.6 RR's

Don't mean to buck the wisdom of the guys that advocate changing the springs, but I've gotten along just fine with the stock springs after adding Crane Gold 1.6 RR's on a basically stock '95 LT1 coupe. Maybe I'm living on borrowed time? Usually shift at 5500, but it runs to 6000 with no problems. I've accumulated probably 5000 miles with quite a few full throttle runs since the change without a glitch. One of the better bang for the buck mods out there.

None...... 1.6 rockers will give you slightly more lift, but will not change the timing of the cam.

Cam timing/overlap determines the rpm range where power is made. Lift determines how much power.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it....
