Hi my car will not idle under 1000 rpm. If I keep my foot on the gas I can stop at red lights, if I leave my foot off gas and it goes under 1000 RPM, It will die out. Then it starts great and I must put it into gear and roll on.
Now, if I am in neutral, it will try to die out, the it will jump up to about 1400 rpm, slow to an 7.5 rpm and try to die. then it will jump up to 1400 again...AND SO ON.....
Any ideas will be helpful. At first I thought, fuel pump. but it runs good at road speeds...
Check and set TPS, IAC, and set minimal idle. Check air filter, fuel pressure, timing, spark plugs, and see if you getting fire from your distrubitor. Is you check engine light on while running? Sounds like alot, but give us a baseline on things you know are good. Nice color vette by the way!

The fuel filter and the pump affect the ability to supply enough gas. It is unlikely either will have anything to do with dying at a slow idle, which requires a minimum of fuel. The same is true of the distributor. If it runs, and it must if it only dies at a slow idle, the distributor isn't the cause. The first thing is to check and cure any codes set in the ECM. They can be there whether the "Check Engine" light is currently on or not. Next, I would pull the IAC out and check both it and the IAC air passages in the TB for carbon, soot, etc. clean if necessary and then go through the "Check and set TPS, IAC, and set minimal idle." routing suggested by RRT vette. Maybe that will save some unnecessary steps.
