You have to unscrew the bolts from inside the hatch.
open up the hatch and you should see bolts. this will release the whole assembly and the rubber seal. you should be able to figure it out from here. I believe there are 4 light bulbs in there.

Not a big deal. If I remember right, once you have it off the car, (it'll have a short wiring harness connected) I think there are a few screws to open up the light assembly to get to the bulbs. The hatch screws are torx. I don't remember which size though, sorry.
I have an 84 vette. It never came with a third brake light, but the guy that owned it before me put it on and there is no bolts, just the three big round things that hold the glass on to the flat hinge. Is it possible the guy glued it on. There is a whole drilled in the flat hinge part where the wiring goes through and thats it. I know that some companies did sell a third brake light for the 84-85 vettes.
it should be bolted, but who knows what other owners do or think.
this is off of corvettecentral's web page.
"This kit wires directly to the brake light switch. Complete instructions, mounting and wiring hardware are included. Painting of the light housing and drilling of the rear window hinge is required, but removal of the window is not. Make your Corvette a safer and newer looking car with this high mounted stop lamp kit.
Add on Kit. Stock Replacement Use Part # 494245"
