I have a set of Hooker competition headers on my 91. The engine needs to be pulled [$%^&()(*&^%$#$%^]to remove headers. They get beatup everytime they are removed. Is there any brand that the headers can be removed without lifting the engine. Does anyone out there installed them and can you really remove them without lifting the engine?????? Thanks
i was under the impression there werent any that NEEDED the engine to be pulled..
Ive had exotic muscle and tpis now.. of course the motor is being built anyhow but the previous em ones didnt the motor out. Nor did my Watson longtubes i had before those.

I did not have to do that to install mine (hkr2149) on a 90. In fact I put the drivers side in from the top, and if the EGR. wasn't there I would have done nothing on the pass. side. That side required taking off the frame extension (from cross member). I was ready to lift back up if ness. but did not need to. I can't see how you need to take out the motor entirely. If you really need to, just getting it up a couple of inches should do it or remove the f.extension on pass. side. You did have the car in the air on jackstands to angle them in, right.
I've never heard of an engine removal to remove or install headers. I installed the hooker 2151's on my 91 without even jacking up the engine. I would imagine I could remove them in the same manner.
Are you doing the work or is a mechanic telling you this? If you have enough experience to remove the engine, you definitely have the marbles to do a header R&R without removing the engine. If a mechanic is telling you he needs to pull the engine to do a header R&R he's either inexperienced or trying to take you for a ride. In either case, it's probably time to find a new mechanic.
