I've been working on my Big Mouth intake. Here's a picture cleaning up the casting ridges in the intake base. Once I was done I used steel wool to make it very smooth.
A picture polishing the plenum. I used a brass brush bit in my drill. I chose to make it more of a satin finish then smooth and mirror like. If you use the brush in a die grinder it will smooth the metal down quickly.
Next is a picture porting the plenum. I removed all the square metal walls. They were just inside the TB openings and between each pair of runner openings. Now if you look down through the plenum it is a straight shot for the air.
A picture while port matching the AS&M runners to the plenum. I shined a work light down the runner. It looks like afterburners!
I will post dyno and track results once I am finished! There are a few more pictures in the My Corvette photos link to the left of this text by my name.
What did you use to continue down through the base? Mine narrows and flows into a D shape. My bits have a tough time fitting in the corners in the middle. I thought of trying a smaller dia. sanding drum but it's also tough to get the angle so that the extension doesn't rub around the runner opening/gasket area. I didn't try to port or change the shape, just clean up the casting mess and then polish. It looked like if I wanted to port I'd have to pay close attention to the shape, how the air changes from the circle to D shape. To make the exit into the head smooth and not turn the air sharply.
