header gasket problem

header gasket problem

I have s&s shorty headers on my LT4, and my exhaust manifold gasket has blown out twice in the last 1500 miles. The car has 48,000 miles.
The last gasket was a felt pro. Some one recommended an earl gasket,any suggestions on the problem or the fix?

I'm not familiar with this header. How thick are the flanges?

You can spend a lot of money on the trick of the month gaskets or fastening systems, but if you will re tighten the bolts after the first few heat cycles, then maybe once a week for a couple of weeks, they should never loosen again.

I used Mr. Gasket's copper Ultra Seal on my JBA shorty's about 3 yrs ago. So far no leaks (knock on wood here). I did re torque them after several heat cycles tho.
