Changed the MAF unit from Auto Zone for $99.00 which is the rebuilt Bosh unit and the two MAF relays. Cleared the code 34 ran great for a day and now right back to a 34 with a ruff idle until you rev it up for a 30 seconds or so, then the missing and searching stops and away you go. Any ideas out there??? Am I down to changing the ECM... :smash:
Tap one your MAF with the end of a screwdriver while it is idling. If the idle changes you may have a bad MAF. Does it run better with the MAF disconnected? Does a code 33 set if you run the car with the MAF disconnected? If it sets a 33 you may have a bad MAF. If 33 does not set something else may be wrong.
Is there any corrosion on the contacts at the relays? Make sure they are clean. If your TPS is out of adjustment you could get a code 34. Vacuum leaks or something causing a rough idle could cause a code 34. MAke sure the duct between the MAF and the throttle body has no holes and is connected well.
Thanks, I am going to clean the relay connector, also I will recheck the TPS, it is new and have it at .55 volts currently. The MAF I replaced two days ago, cleared the 34 and it ran great for two days. This is a strange one. Drove it last night to dinner. Sometimes it starts fine. When it does not you chance the throttle to about 1800 to 2200(peddle the throttle) and it clears up in 15 to 20 seconds.
Will do....This is a strange one. In the last 3 months on my 89 at 96,000 miles have changed the Alternator twice, first new Pep Boys special failed, MAF,relays, MAF, IAC, rebuilt throttle body, replaced MAP and IAC...Pulled the radiator and cleaned between the radiator and condensor. that was a smart, change the belt and did it all my self. So have saved some money...But this one is a little challenging. I am wondering if I should change the ECM. It says if this all does not clear up this could be the Issue...Well that is part of owning a used vett.
