I posted this in the general also. I don't have any tags with the rpo codes on my car. I want to replace the shocks, but have a choice of a couple of suspensions. Is there any other foolproof way to identify a suspension?
There were three suspension options in 88. Base FE1, Z51 and Z52. The base suspenson got a steering rack with (IIRC) 3 turn lock to lock and 16" wheels.
Z51 and Z52 cars got quicker steering (2.5 turns) and 17" wheels; Z51 cars got the quick steering, 17" wheels and a finned power steering cooler (visible in the front of the steering rack and larger front brakes. Z51 was available on coupes onlywhile the base suspension and Z52 came on both coupes and verts.
The Z51 sway bar is 24mm in diameter while the FE1 and Z52 bar is 22mm.
