Default new lt4 owner problems

ive posted before and have been treated great. i purchased a black lt4 from ebizautos.com"scroll down to sold". this thing is a beauty. the 315's on the back are awesome.the check engine light is on and im a little short on chevy knowledge. im planning to pull the engine and reseal it along with some performance goodies,ie cam, ported or aftermarket heads, electric water pump, long tubes, ect. i work for ford and im familiar with open and closed loop, sensor inputs ect. i have a laptop but is this the best way to go? im pretty sure the old jump the dcl wont work to flash the codes so i would be greatly appreciatiave for any help. with youre help i hope i can master this chevy ob2. thank you

Yes, you can get many programs from the web in order to scan your car for codes. You can monitor your sensor inputs in realtime. It should be easy to do with a laptop. You'd need to buy a cable first from Craig Moates.

I use Autotap with the chevy plugin. I can get real time sensor information, pull and delete codes.

Same here. It's paid for itself several times already. A worthwhile investment if you're planning on doing your work yourself (especially if you're adding mods) since you can log data from any sensor you want.

The easiest way in the short term is go to your local Autozone or some other autoparts stores and they will read the codes at no charge......

Autotap is great, but does a lot more than just read codes.....I have it & it is great.....I also just bought an Ease codereader, reads codes, etc without having to connect to a laptop...
