85 ignition timing, help please
Is the "tan" colour more brown than tan?, is the wire thick, thin and what colour is the connector and what type of connector? One other thing....this car has been converted to right hook, but i know the guy who done it and i don't think he would have barstardised the wiring loom with different colours.
Any help appreciated, this is starting to wear me down :mad
Cheers
Good hunting !!
The distributor has 2 sets of wires coming out just beneath the cap. One set is from the condenser and can be identified as the bundle that goes to the + C - markings on the cap, just behind the tach and bat terminals. That isn't the bundle you want.
The bundle you want to follow is most likely coming out the bottom of the distributor on the firewall side. It will have 4 wires on it. I would say there is about a foot of wire (about 30.48 cm if it pleases you ;) ) and then there is a flat 4 wire weatherproof connector. The wire colors in that connector are likely purple/white, white (mine has turned yelow with age), black/red, and a tan/black. My tan/black looks more like orange/black and the black is pretty light. Follow that tan/black wire (by ruling out the other 3) and about 45 cm later there should be a connector that looks just like the one that plugs into the O2 sensor. That is the one.
You will get a code 42 and remember to do the timing when the car is warmed up (and keep the wire connected till it is warmed up). Set your timing, turn off your car, plug the connector back in, disconnect the battery for a few seconds to clear the code, close the bonnet, fire it up and make sure that timing is more than what you set it at. The computer will add anywhere from 0-30 degrees at idle depending on conditions. Good luck, -Matt-
