After startup and driving for 30 seconds to 10 minutes on the 91 L98 6spd, the dash powers down, then instantly powers back up. In the power up it goes through the starting cycle. It happens so fast the if the engine shuts down I can't tell. I do not seam to get any codes for this event. Any Idea's, Thanks.
you've likely got a ground problem. I would check the wires first (the plugs are behind the dash near the middle A/C vents" but likely some of the soldered grounds inside the dash may be brittle and intermittently contacting (ie broken). Get some contact cleaner to remove corrosion on all the plugs, if that doesn't help then you may have to pull the cluser apart to find the break.
I felt the same fear about going in there .Look it up in the file, very good instructions. Really very easy & satisfying task . I would rate it a One on a scale of 1 to 10.
When you fix it you"ll feel like a genius .
I had something similar in my '88, but all the lights stayed on... Hit a bump and everything was normal again. Hit another and the same thing, it turned out to be the computer was at fault. supposedly the board cracks???? and it loses contact inside. I pulled my comp. and had the car running, tap it and the engine would shut down, and not start again. Tap it again and it would start put no dash lights...etc. It cost me 100.00 (cdn) for a "new" comp from GM.
The answer on what really was wrong. It was on the positive side. The hot lead from the battery to the starter was installed improperly, by a unnamed really good corvette shop in northern Illinios, and it contacted the drivers side header, causing the wire installation to burn through to the wire and shorting the system from time to time. I patched and moved the wire away from the header no more problem. The good news is I did not have to get into the dash. We at least for that problem this time.
