Default Update on my 383 build............

Well here is the latest update. The 383 Motor I ordered in January wasn't up to my standards, even after the second one
showed so I made a deal with the shop manager. My previous motor was with forged SRP pistons, forged Scat Rods and
a Scat cast crank. I have now upgraded the Crank to a Scat Forged unit, I ordered SRP Forged lightweight Pistons,
and Forged Scat Rods for 7/16's rod bolt upgrade, with Plasma moly rings and called it even. TPiS will be building the new
motor now. I told them after the last experience to go "all the way" with the build. Basically they are using some low friction
coating on the piston skirts, and they will be Swain coating the Piston tops, chambers, valves and exhaust ports. They
are radiusing the oil holes in the crank as well. They will be installing a windage tray and using a 7 quart race pan.
The rest of the parts are the same as my sig. When the whole build is complete I told them to strap it down to the engine
dyno and run it for the day to break it in and fine tune the custum chip they made me, they will include all the info on
everything in a report to me.
So what do you guys think? I'm glad I did this because I also discovered that in Late model motors you can't use H beam rods
with a radical cam like I have, there isn't enough clearance! I never knew that? Good thing I found out this way hugh?

Looks like a very good plan, i had contacted Tpis before i ordered mine from larry's perf but they said it would cost me 5 grand just the assembled block with all the parts u described, so bottom line u get what u pay for that is true ni gave my order to larry b/c he got a good pricing but it sucks when i saw the first block and desparately waiting for a second one which is on the way to pete. K in PA.

As i spoke to u u said second block is substantially lot better than first one but now u changed ur mind to go FORGED all the way, this statement gave me a little peace of mind but still my fingers crossed.

U r doin an excellent job by giving it to Tpis, if u dont mind asking how much for 383 block frrom Tpis. And r u returning larry's block ?. i will call u again as when i spoked to u last time i was at work and it was so much disturbance we could not tallked right. Good luck in ur project now with Tpis u dont hassle anymore my friend they will take care of it. Its not the money ofcourse it counts but a big hassle we have taken to deal with jim at larrry's perf.

Im more than disappointed myself, I have heard lots of good feedback on him, liked what I heard during the times I have spoken with them. To see this happen to you pizzes me off. Hope the new one he sent you is satisfactory, perhaps they did send you the wrong one, mistakes do happen, especially with high volume shops.

Keep us posted, if it isnt right I wont be buying anything there for sure.

I fired off an "encouraging" email to him in hopes you get taken care of. I feel bad for even posting anything positive about them after what you two have gone through.

Sammy and Stubbs have both received nothing but pieces of **** from this "Larry" guy. I dont know how that stuff passes threw the doors, and meets his quality control. Two words come to mind, FRAUD and SCAM. I would never EVER deal with this guy. I am pissed off, and I have never dealt with him. Sammy post those pics of your shortblock on here for the boys to see.

Well the first motor was BAD, but the second was better, just not up to blower standards. But before you go slamming this guy, think about something. If he really was a scammer, why would he pay an extra 500 to ship the 2nd motor out and the first back, and now add another 250 for shipping the 2nd back. If he really was a scammer he would have said "thats what you get for your money" or ignored both of us completely. Jim has done whatever I asked, so I can't call him a scammer. I think he just has people building the motors that don't know what they are really doing maybe? Good for an average street car, but not the monster I'm making.

Based on what I have sitting in the corner of my garage, nothing kind can be said about the guys work. His character is not my place to say. I will shy people away from his shop. 1 motor leaving his place that resembles the turd I have sitting on the pallet is inexcusable. I have 2 buddys that are competant engine builders. They will always check an employees work. It is the owners name on the sign, afterall.
Filled with metal filings, grease, dirt and debris. Wrong parts, no torque plate, missing parts, upcharge on the shipping. (quoted $170, yet I get a $281.45 cod show at my door) and a crank that barely turns due to the fact that no side clearance on the rods exists. Shame on Larry

Its all about quality control Stubbs. I saw the pictures of Sammy's motor. Enough said. None of my friends will deal with "Larry".
