Default Need 89 700r4 Identification Numbers

I am looking the identification numbers for a 89 Corvette 700r4. I have searched the net but I have not found the definitive numbers.

Here is the situation. I purchased a rebuilt transmission that was supposidly from a 89 Corvette.. Silly me I did not check the ID numbers. Anyway the trans has failed and the ID numbers are 5YC105C. So far I have determined this is from a 1985 trans from what I can not tell so I am looking for info. The trans is still under warranty but I want to make sure I get one from a 89 Corvette which is what my invoice states. In my mind this is fraud but I want to have as much info as I can gather before I take it back. Bottom line is I want what I paid for.

Any assistance in gathering the info is greatly appreciated.

5yc is the correct prefix for the 85 corvette
105 is the Julien date it was built.
c means second shift.
89 vettes had the following number prefix:
9ydm

Pete - The differences would be great. One of the items I was looking for was the aux valve body.... What is the significance of the 2nd shift?

Any info is appreciated.

The main purpose of the aux valve body is to provide a cushion when put in gear. It also contains an abuse valve to kepp the foward clutches from burning when rocked back and forth between drive and reverse. Such as when stuck in mud or snow. The aux valve body contributes nothing that I am aware of to anything else. It is a handy thing to have, but not critical.People refer to it often because the aux valve body identifies the trans as a later unit and the other changes that went along with it. These other changes are what makes it stronger.
The major differences between 86 and 89 are:
85 has smaller 26 element sprag. 87 up have 28.
29 element sprag is available to upgrade the 87 up only sprags
85 lo-roller clutch (rear sprag)is small. 87 up are larger.
Both of these items are major load carrying(torque holding) items.
85 has 7 vane pump 89 has 10 vane pump.
These are the major issues. There are many smaller differences.
85-86 units are not bad. 87-93 are better for high hp and torque stuff.

700 cores are common. No reason in the world why he could not easily upgrade these for you. He may have already. The core(85 model) is worth keeping with these upgrades. I have an 86 core that I may upgrade. It makes them more "retailable" (if that is a word)
