i know its probably not dead on, but has anyone dealt with the g-tech, either SS or RR? Just wondering if it was worth the money for the results it gives you, does it give you any kind of basis for whether you are headed the right way or not with mods/tweaking? Not sure if I wanna drop $300 on it right now, but if it actually is helpful, and i wont have to continuously go to a dyno to see whats going on with the car, then it might be worth the investment. just want you guys input on it, ive been "educated" on here before and it has saved me a good bit of money in the past.
i searched for this on the forum, but i didnt see any straight up reviews of it. if there is a thread please just send me a link.
thanks
I have to agree. I just bought the g-tech ss and its fun. In order to get somewhat accurate results everything needs to be set perfectly from what I'm understanding about it. Since I've gotten it I've been through the manual several times and still learning about it. It does run all over the place though with normal driving. I'm not to sure the hp/tq are all that accurate. Hell it told me I had 404 net hp! Wish I did! But theres no way. I think the times are pretty close. When playing with it from 0-60 ft, I had gotten three different times: first was 1.76, second 2.32, and third was 2.09. I'm pretty sure that those are fairly close give or take. Its ends up just being another toy to play with but fun at least for now
My brother made in car videos of the g-tech in his 97 camaro ss ON the track. I remember the et and mph quite clearly although its been 5 years because we've repeated it to many many people.
Actual ET 13.97 Actual MPH 101
Gtech ET 13.98 Gtech MPH 103
*now ive heard that some tracks uses the last 30 feet and averages your time to cross both beams to get mph. If thats true then the mph is in fact almost dead on. IMO no road is perfectly level like the track, and real roads all have a slight curve in it that might affect data to the gtech.
Most importantly i believe the Gtech IS a great tuning tool. as long as you are using the same stretch of road to compare results.
I have one of those $40 models that I bought years ago. Fun toy, I used it a few times, and now it measures the speed of the dust in my closet pretty accurately.

I have the Escort G timer. It gives consistent results. With it I was able to realize after a tranny rebuild (A4) I had no 1st gear as my times were off by over a second.
On my G-Tech, the trap speed was always consistently +6 mph too high. The ET was about 0.1-0.6 optimistic side by side compared with the drag strip ET in the 1/8 mile.
The day I first used it on my Vette, I didn't believe it when it said I ran a 8.0 @ 90 mph and did a 12.30 @ 113 mph, 2.6 60' time.
I hear they aren't as accurate with cars that don't have tight suspension. I know my 96 squats a lot with hard acceleration and especially with quick upshifts.
