to sum it up, this is a lot of head for the money. lol lol.

no but seriously, my previous combo was 383, edelbrock e tec heads, 170cc, edelbrock base and runners, and ported plenum, with stock gearing of 2.59's, i went a best of 13.70's at around 104-5.

my current combo is a mini ram 3 exclusively set up for fast burn heads, or any vortec style heads will also work. i have a custom comp cams grind, out of the box fast burn heads, and a 406 underneath all of that. this combo really likes to breathe above 3000 rpm, maybe it's the 210cc heads or just the intake, but i like them. for the money they are pretty good. i found them cheap at salle chevrolet in cali for 1200 and summit racing priced matched them and sent them for free.

one of the big hassles that i did not account for when i bought the heads is the raised exhaust ports. the guys at scoggin dickey told me that if i had the 1 3/4 long tube headers that it would be fine. i already had the headers.
this is completely false! the headers will bolt right up, but will create an exhaust restriction, the top of the headers come about 1/4 of an inch below the top of exhaust port!
how did i fix the problem? i grinded the bolt holes in my headers 1/8 of an inch up and test fitted them when when the engine was out, and it was still a big pain in ***. after test fitting them they still need anothe 1/8 of an inch. the easiest way to have fixed this problem is to order a set of lt1 headers for a 92 to 95 vet, but i did not have the money to do that. if you don't have headers yet, then you are in luck or not, if you buy these heads you will have to buy headers to go with it.
you will also have to get new self alinging rocker arms, you will not be able to re-use the ones from the l98.
one more thing, although these heads are a little too big for a 350 (gm doesn't think so) if you ever plan to go stroker, these are good heads to move up into. email me if you have more specific questions.

there are some forum members that believe you can put l98 headers on lt1 cars. while l98 headers are ok for stock headed lt1 cars, they are not ok on fully modified and ported aftermarket lt1 or lt4 heads, the exhaust ports are simply too big and higher up for the headers to not create a restriction in the exhaust flow path. hope this makes sense.

My rebuild project is going to include a Miniram and a 383 build. I was thinking of Sportsman II heads. Would fast burn be a better match up?

I have a ZZ3 Crate Engine in my 85 Vette. Do I have the "Fast Burn" Heads?

And can anyone tell me what the difference between the ZZ3 and the ZZ4 Crate Engine?

Thanks!

Why are these to big for a 350? Would porting and polishing my stock heads be a better option than buying the Fastburn or Brodix heads?
I can get them done for about 1/2 of the price of the new heads.

ZZ4 has L98 '113 heads
ZZ3 has them also, and the cams are 'supposed' to be the same from memory. (208/221)

So they are basically the same engine, but the compression on ZZ4 is a bit higher. The difference is then the piston choice, springs, retainers.

210cc intake runner is too big, your low-end will take a big hit. These should only be used on higher-revving engines with proper intake to go with it. (Miniram/LT1-style)

Large intake ports=low port velocity at low rpm=less torque at low rpm

The larger cubic inches tends to make up for it, but I still think they are big for a 383.

why did u only go 13.70@105 with a 383 with that combo? seems slow!

What headers were you running that you had to modify them to fit?

And (to anyone) who makes LT1 specific headers with a raised port configuration?

86VX1 what kind of cam specs and how is low end with this set-up? did you use hydraulic roller cam? Would think LT-4 valve springs would limit top end rpm? Thanks for info.

I have a Accel SuperRam on my ZZ3 with an AOD. I find that it lacks low RPM power, is there any solution?

Thanks

88black z51, my car use to run low 14's at around 95 bonne stock, with the 383, etec heads, and edelbrock base and runners, i picked up almost a full second with the stock 2.59 rear end! i was using the vet to commute back and forth from bakersfield to san francisco every weekend, about a 700 mile round trip. I think the gear really hurt the cars et.

danz51, the headers i have right now are the hooker long tubes and coated with 1 3/4 inch primiries and three inch collectors. all lt1 headers stock and aftermarket already come with the raised port configuration.

c-4now, the cam i'm using right now is a hydralic roller from comp cams, it is very similar to the zzx grind from tpis. i am currently experimenting with shift points and will soon go to the track and find out what kind of numbers this combo will lay down. i am guessing mid 12's. the low rpm torque is pretty good but not as good as my previous 383. there is a little bit of part throttle hesitation, but it's not that bad, i mash the throttle a little faster to compensate. i you plan on using a 383 or larger motor, low speed torque will not be that much of a problem.

jasenz51, lingenfelter 219 cam with a chip to match, will improve your low speed torque.
