I just talked to a guy about his 96 vette - auto lt1..he claimed it had 350hp because it was chipped and had a borla exaust. Could someone tell me what amount of horsepower difference that makes on an LT1 motor...cause 50 hp sounds kinda crazy to me..
He is mistaken, but you'll never convince him of it. Maybe you can get him to dyno it, but make a bet with him first. For every rear wheel horse power he makes over 300, you give him a dollar. For every rear wheel horse power it makes under 300, he gives you a dollar.
My bet is that he owes you at least $15 when it's over.
If he had a custom chip and a catback exhaust, or even headers/highflow cats, 50chp is not out of reach..Heck he probably has a K&N and open airfilter cover which is good for 5-10chp just by itself..
Even the generic hypertech programmer 3 for a '96 LT1 is good for 20-30hp bone stock I've heard. It's quite different than the older vette hypertech programming.
When people start talking fly wheel hp they are only estimating...
why get upset when people talk...
all I do is say "that thing must be quick, bring it to the track with us the next time we go".
80% of the time they never go. the other 18% get their feelings hurt at the track and 2% run the number.
Seriously though, out of the dozens or so people I have went to the track with (that was their first time) I can only remember 1 guy running better than he thought he would. 12.77 @ 109.2 in an 87 Formula (carburated garage parts motor).
Everyone else myself included was let down each time when I had each of my 3 motors installed.
We will see about the next (4th) motor if its a let down.
I put a packet of salt and vinegar chips on my passenger seat the other day and i reckon i had a shade over 250 extra.... grams of weight in the car.....
Was that your car in Vette mag at SLP getting their "330hp power pack" (or whatever)? I remember those crank numbers were also about 318 stock and 350 after 1.6's etc.
Reminds me of the guy that approached me at the tire store; started telling me about his 86 Vette, and that he got so pissed off at it,he parked it on his front lawn, and sold it for $500. Never had a good thing to say about the car,all bull****,and now he is driving a rice burner!
